Kick-off your career in football business!

In 2016, the Center for Sports and Management, in cooperation with the Career Center of the WHU and clubs of the Bundesliga, launched an internship program exclusively for WHU students. As part of the program, selected WHU students have been given the opportunity to complete an internship at top clubs and organizations in German professional football.

All information about the internship program at a glance:

  • Sport-interested WHU students of all programs and classes who are interested in a career in sports business are eligible to apply.
  • Internships take place in May 2018 at the following clubs / organizations: DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, FC Bayern Munich, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hertha Berlin. 
  • On November 7th, 2018 we will hold a short info session (approx. 15 minutes) for all interested students at Campus Vallendar. Detailed information will be provided by the Career Center shortly.
  • Please send your full application no later than November 18th, 2018 via e-mail to Please include your CV, a highly convincing motivation letter and all of your certificates. Kindly also state your preferred internship club. Further information on the vacancies can be found in the job postings on this page.
  • Please note: You have to be fluent in German both written and spoken for each of the internships.
  • Together with the WHU Career Center he CSM recruiting team will review your application and conduct on campus interviews on December 4th, 2018. Please block this date in your calender!
  • Successful applicants will be presented to the Bundesliga club, taking their preference into account. The Bundesliga club then conducts a final interview and finalizes the internship contract directly with the applicant. Framework conditions for the internship are agreed directly between the intern and the Bundesliga club.

Lennard Klein (TSG Hoffenheim)

Lennard Klein was a student pursuing a Master’s degree at WHU (Class of 2018). As part of the program of internships with German Bundesliga football teams, organized by the Center for Sports and Management and the Career Center at WHU, he spent three months with Champions League participant TSG Hoffenheim. Lena Hoof (FC Bayern München)

"During my time at FC Bayern Munich, I had the opportunity to work on three different projects and got to know so many facets of the club. I was also integrated into the team from day one and my colleagues helped me intensively to improve my hard and soft skills. The exciting project work, the insight into the football industry and the positive working atmosphere made my internship an unforgettable time!"

Oliver Eischet und Christian Siemens (beide FC Bayern München)

"During the internship, I did not only gain deep insight into the structures and procedures of a professional football club, but could also improve my hard and soft skills to a considerable extent", Oliver Eischet (BSc 2018) explains. "In general, I was surprised by the high responsibility that was given to me during the internship. Since the first day at FC Bayern, I felt as a full team member, which was highlighted by the high degree of autonomy within my project work."

During his 13-week internship Eischet was employed in the Department of International Marketing and International Strategy of FC Bayern. His tasks included the development and implementation of a reporting tool for the Chinese e-commerce business, the support of the project team as part of a comprehensive optimization project in the area of ​​merchandising, and the evaluation of the product range as part of the implementation of a new online sales channel.

Christian Siemens (MSc 2018) was employed in the same department. "After all, the internship was a great way to link my professional skills with my personal interests with regard to football", Siemens explains. "The resulting intensive motivation has unfortunately left me with the feeling, that the internship ended way to fast."

Malte Vorbeck (Borussia Dortmund)

"I can only recommend this internship to anyone who wants to gain an insight into the sports business", says Malte Vorbeck (BSc 2018) about his internship in the field of internationalization at Borussia Dortmund. He was deeply involved in the organization of BVB's Asia tour in 2017 as well as in the exploration of the US market for future projects of Borussia Dortmund. "I had tremendous fun at work," Malte Vorbeck continues. "If you like sports and you are a football fan, and at the same time this passion is part of your daily work, you develop an incredibly great motivation. At BVB everybody did their best to integrat me into the workday from the very first minute. This way I could feel as a fully accepted member of the team very quickly."
