franz. finals 2017 at Hotel Adlon in Berlin were a great success

Team from IE Madrid wins this year’s global student competition franz.

On the 26th of May 2017, for the third time, franz. - the global student competition on the future of sport initiated by CAMP BECKENBAUER took place. After the great performances of the finalists at the WHU-Campus Düsseldorf in 2015 and in the Europa Park Rust 2016, this year the prestigious Hotel Adlon in Berlin - one of Germany's most famous hotels - offered a worthy setting for the finals. The three finalists from the London Business School / UK, the IE Madrid / Spain and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who were previously selected from applications from more than 70 teams with more than 260 students from 28 countries, competed against each other. The concepts of all student teams focused on the topic of „How To Win The Chinese Customer For Your Favorite Sport?“. The high-caliber jury, consisting of corporate partners of CAMP BECKENBAUER as well as well-known representatives of sports and business, selected team “PowerPlay8” from IE Madrid/Spain as this year’s winner. The winning team on the one hand developed a revolutionary concept for measuring the performance in Ice Hockey. On the other hand, they showed how to increase Ice Hockey engagement among Chinese consumers with this concept.

In addition, Prof. Dr. Sascha L. Schmidt, senior full professor and director of the Center for Sports and Management (CSM) at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, shared insights of this year’s CAMP BECKENBAUER Research Report „DANCING WITH THE DRAGON - The quest for the Chinese football consumer“, which examines the different characteristics of football fans from China, USA, Germany, Japan and South Korea with a particular focus on the Chinese market. SAT1-show master Andrea Kaiser moderated the event.
